Kenneth Blackwell, CHSP

Kenneth (Ken) Blackwell is an Environment of Care and Life Safety Code Engineer who brings twenty years of experience as a specialist in healthcare and healthcare administration. He served as a Life Safety Code Specialist for the Joint Commission Accreditation Healthcare Organization. During his fifteen-year tenure at the Joint Commission, Ken surveyed over seven-hundred healthcare facilities. As such, he is certified to survey the Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as acute care, behavioral health, and ambulatory care facilities and hospitals. 

In addition to managing the survey process, Ken is an experienced Preceptor who managed monthly onboarding processes for new hires working to become certified Life Safety Code Surveyors. 

Overall, Ken’s healthcare industry and market expertise spans twenty years in the areas of healthcare regulatory compliance, operations management, strategic planning, business process improvement, and team building. Ken served as the Vice President of Support Services at United Medical Center, he served as Director of Engineering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Director of Engineering at Macolm Grow Medical Center as well as Andrews Air Force Base, and he served as the Director of Occupational Safety and Health at the University of Maryland Medical Center. 

Ken is a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional, a member of the National Fire Protection Association and a Yellow Belt, and he was an active member of the US Air Force where he served as an Air Traffic Controller for over ten years. Ken earned his associate degree in Aeronautical Science at North Carolina Central University in 1990. Finally, Ken has authored numerous Environment of Care articles, and he is an accomplished public speaker.
