Stephen Dorman, MD

Stephen Dorman has more than 30 years of clinical and medical staff leadership experience in quality management, performance improvement, systems analysis, medication management, and the Conditions of Participation. Dr. Dorman was a Joint Commission Physician Surveyor for ten years as well as a practicing Anesthesiologist for twenty years.

As a Physician Surveyor for the Joint Commission, Dr. Dorman was a physician team leader serving in various roles including faculty of their education arm. He served as a committee member on their Surveyor Advisory Committee, and he served on the Med IG Joint Survey Team for the Air Force, Army, and Navy. During the same period, he maintained a consulting business that focused on Joint Commission and CMS survey preparation for hospitals and ambulatory healthcare settings. In 2013, he accepted a full-time position as Chief Medical Officer for the New Mexico Department of Health. In 2017 he transitioned to the position of Chief Compliance Officer at Clinical Colleagues, Inc. In 2023, Dr. Dorman maintains a contractual relationship with CCI focusing on governmental compliance, medical staff compliance, and anesthesia safety. 

In his early career, Dr. Dorman completed his undergraduate degree at Duke University, and he completed his medical education at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Thereafter Dr. Dorman entered his internship and residency in Anesthesiology for the US Navy at Oakland Naval Regional Medical Center. He subsequently served his duty at Naval Hospital in Newport, Rhode Island. He was honorably discharged after seven years of Navy service.

Throughout his career, Dr. Dorman has presented on critical, relevant healthcare topics for nationally recognized education programs from CMS Compliance, The Joint Commission Compliance, Medication Management as well as Credentialing and Privileging. He maintains his current medical license in New Mexico and North Carolina, and he takes great interest in learning foreign languages including German and Japanese.
