Valentino Tesoro, MD, FACS, MBA

Dr. Tesoro is an associate of Nash Healthcare Safety Consulting. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and American Medical Association. Dr. Tesoro practiced as a Plastic Surgeon for 19 years then went on to be a Physician Surveyor for the California Institute of Medical Quality for 17 years then a Joint Commission Physician Surveyor for 12 years.

Previous positions include Chief Quality Officer at Palomar Pomerado Healthcare System and Vice President of Medical Affairs at Bay Medical Center and Riverside Community Hospital. Dr. Tesoro also served as Chief of Staff while at Riverside Community Hospital.

During his time at Palomar Pomerado Health System, Dr. Tesoro had many achievements. He implemented processes for concurrent data collection and submission of core measure data to include AMI, Pneumonia, Congestive Heart Failure, Surgical Infection Prevention. He also created a Medical Staff Leadership Development Curriculum for each level of medical staff leadership that included an orientation manual for new medical staff leaders, Horty-Springer Seminars on Medical Staff Responsibilities, American College of Physician Executives Seminars on Negotiations and Hospital Finances, Chief of Staff Boot Camp.

Dr. Tesoro received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Hawaii in 1967 then went on to Medical School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1971. He completed his residency in General and Plastic Surgery at the University of California from 1971 to 1981. Dr. Tesoro later obtained his MBA at the University of Tennessee School of Business.
